BILL’S 2014 JAZZ FEST PICKS – DAY III
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No Andy Williams, not Christmas, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the unchallenged greatest music and culture event on the planet. I hope you have remembered your sunscreen and paced your partying; one more great day ahead at the Fairgrounds.
Early in the day check out Royal Teeth, The N.O. Guitar Quartet (it should be against the law to have so much guitar talent on one stage… if Slowhand stops by, it probably will be), and today’s “Who Dat?” pick – Bombino from Africa. If you are too tired to wander, stay at Samsung all day after Royal Teeth for Bonerama, Galactic, and Vampire Weekend. While Fais Do Do is always a great bet for that unique French-Louisiana sound, one of today’s highlights is Meschiya Lake, who while traditional, not so much traditional Cajun. On your way to today’s finales enjoy 2 different but unmistakable N.O. sounds - The Rebirth Brass Band and John Boutte’. Closing out today is, as usual, a challenge of timing and mobility: 2 acts I have heard plenty about but never heard – Vampire Weekeknd and Rodriuez and 1 man who needs no introduction, Eric Clapton.
Remember to practice the “Walk By”, stroll by the many different stages to see bands that you have never heard of for a song or two. I promise that you will discover something fabulous you never even know existed. Thanks for coming and, as always, Go Hear Some Life Local Music!
